The man with the big heart, A.J., passed in peace under the loving care of the staff at William J. Riley Memorial Residence early on Thursday, July 5th at the age of 73. Preceded in death by his parents Julius and Quintelar Emery, Sisters Lula Bullard, Thelma Roberson, & Ida Bell Austin. Brothers Warren T and Morgan Emery. He leaves to cherish two sisters, Essie B Thompson, and Margaret (Sam) Morris, sister-in-laws Naomi Emery,and Ola Emery, three brothers Oscar ,O' Lester and Freddie Emery. A.J. leaves three children, Arlana (Jerry) Emery-Rogers, Demitrious Emery, and Allen Emery . He has 12 grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including special friend Margaret Mack.
A.J. will be fondly remembered as a loving and giving man who after 30 years of service, retired from Inland Steel in East Chicago. AJ was an avid reader, often reading three newspapers each day. He held a special love in his heart for Monroe/Alexandria, Louisiana where he was born and raised. A.J. was a friend to everyone in his East Chicago neighborhood and will be remembered as such.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 11am at Divinity Funeral Home, 3831 Main Street, East Chicago, Indiana. Visitation one hour prior to service.
