Dallas Creighton Sr., the son of the late George and Josephine (Elzy) Creighton was born on May 30, 1936 in Laurel, Delaware and departed this mortal life for eternal life on November 12, 2018. Dallas professed a hope in Christ at a very early age where he attended St Matthews Baptist Church. He attended and graduated from Laurel Delaware Public Schools. Later, Dallas joined with the New Community Baptist church where he served faithfully as an Usher, Inspirational and Male Choir member, and as a trustee on the Executive Board.
Dallas served his country faithfully in the United States Army for 20 years. He fought in both the Korean and Vietnam wars and attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. He distinguished himself by receiving the following military decorations, medals, badges, commendations, citations or campaign ribbons: Army Commendation Medal, two Armed Forces Expeditionary Medals, 60 Day Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, 2 Overseas Service Bars, National Service Defense Service Medal, and a Vietnam Service Medal Campaign Silver Star.
On February 13th, 1959, Dallas was united in Holy Matrimony to Barbara Sue Williams in her hometown of Mortons Gap. KY. To this union two children were born, Dalese Ann on January 26th 1961 and Dallas Jr on November 26th, 1965, His military career led him and his young family to live in Seaside, California, Junction City, Kansas, Schweinfurt and Wuerzburg, Germany, and Colorado Springs, Colorado before settling in Hammond Indiana.
After retirement from the Army, Dallas taught ROTC at various Gary Indiana High Schools for another 20 years retiring in 1994. He inspired many young people to attain successful careers in the military and/or as civilians. Dallas loved bowling and enjoyed camaraderie with his fellow ROTC buddies and many friends. During his time as an ROTC instructor, Dallas worked in the Hammond Parks Department managing at Civic Center and Hammond’s Martin Luther King Park swimming pool during the summer. After retiring from the Gary School System, Dallas went on to join his daughter as a courier at Mercantile Bank where his good natured sense of fun and friendly attitude endeared him to many. After retiring from Mercantile, he began to enjoy his sunset years with his wife Barbara and continued his dedicated service to his New Community Baptist Church family.
He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted and loving son Dallas Jr of Merrillville and a devoted and much beloved grandson , Robert Creighton of Hammond; loving sister, Evangelist Joyce(Bishop Harold) Moore of Springfi eld, MA, devoted brother David (Pastor Janice) Creighton of Dover; special uncle Curtis(Midlred) Creighton of Richmond, Virginia; special Aunts, Kate Roane of Richmond, VA and Irene Goodwyn of Hopewell, VA; two special Goddaughters, Marva(Doug) Washkowiak of West Lafayette, IN and Taryn (Darryl) Walker of Anaheim, CA.; nephews Frankie (Rebecca) Riley of Lousiville, KY, Dallas (Michelle) Riley of Spartanburg, SC and Tony Creighton of Dover, DE; nieces Darlene Byers of Spartanburg, SC and Lisa Creighton of Newark, DE; devoted cousins Lucille Snorton and Betty Lewis of Hammond IN; special nephew Alonzo(Kathleen) Simms of East Chicago; devoted friends Fred and Joann Merkerson of Hammond and a host of other family,friends and retired Army buddies. He was preceded in death by loving wife, Barbara, devoted daughter Dalese, beloved brother Lester and infant granddaughter Robin.
