I, Gladys Louise Burts, also known as “Coca Cola” began this journey called life on March 2, 1946. Yes I am the oldest of four children. We were born to Carrie Lee and Robert Lee Burts in Macon County, Alabama. We received our education in East Chicago IN. Our parents provided a stable home with a strict up bringing for my siblings Robert (Boly), Johnnie (Chick), Joe and myself. They instilled in us family values and showed us unity and laughter.
I was gainfully employed by the United States Postal Service until I took my last breathe. I served New Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church nurses guild until my health began to fail. I also served on the Parent Advisory Board for East Chicago Public School System and volunteered my time to help others. I lived life for my grand children...they were my heart. Spoiling them was my life goal. I just hope they know how much I loved them. I was blessed to have two daughters Lena Simone, and Jo Anne who I loved with all of my heart. You will always have the true essence of me by looking at my daughters. I raised them with lots of love, discipline and determination. They have become everything I always wished for I am proud to call them mine.
On Monday, June 18, 2018, at 12:27 PM, I answered the gentle call of my loving Father from earthly labor to heavenly rest. I joined my parents Carrie Lee, and Robert Lee, my bother Joe, my grand parents Louis and Luerannie Tolbert and several aunts and uncles to rejoice with the Lord.
I leave to carry on my legacy my two children, Lena S. Minor of Austell, GA; Jo Anne (Brian) Davis of West Palm Beach, FL; My eight Grandchildren: Keyontria (Wilky) Charles, Donald (Shaquita) Noble, Isaiah (Jaisa) Minor, Taylor Davis and Tylor Davis; my four Great Grandchildren: Jajuan Noble, Ashanti Noble, Kallan Charles, Donald Noble III.
