Gloria Andrea Turner was born May 4, 1945 to her parents Tinnie and Helen Harbour in East Chicago, IN. Gloria was later educated at Washington High School and graduated with the class of 1963. After high school, she attended Indiana University Northwest where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She worked for East Chicago School System for thirty three years where she taught as a Reading Resource Teacher and Title I Specialist. Gloria met and married Charles E. Turner, Sr. in 1973. She was a lifelong member of St. Mark AME Zion Church. She enjoyed travel, reading, crossword puzzles, and smooth jazz music. Gloria, most of all, enjoyed family, friends, and her pets.
Gloria Andrea Turner passed away Saturday, June 22, 2019 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Hobart, IN. She will be remembered for her warm smile, wit, and kindness.
Gloria is preceded in death by her parents Tinnie and Helen Harbour. She leaves to cherish her memories her husband Charles E. “Gene” Turner, Sr.; son Charles E. “Chuck” Turner, Jr.; beloved brother Stephen C. Harbour; two granddaughters Autumn S. Turner and China J. Venson; lifelong friend Joan Comer and a host of family and friends.
