Ms. Leila Marie Strong was born May 6, 1933 in Hurtsboro, Alabama. She attended Russel County Training School before moving to East Chicago, Indiana. At an early age she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and joined Second Baptist Church. Ms. Strong was a dedicated member and served faithfully as a member of the Missionary Ministry.
Leila quietly departed this life on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at St. Catherine Hospital. She was preceded in death by sons Seymour Hill Jr. and Jimmie Franklin, grandson Tyler Hill, mother Marie Strong, father McKenzie Hunter, and sister Bessie Smith.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children: Tony Mack, Lashonda (Darci) Mack, LaTasha (Niecy) Mack, Lisa (Curtis) Hill-Lang, Twyla Hill. Sisters Eula C. Hill of Lima, OH, Lucinda Irving and Idella (Gene) Brown both of Gary, IN, Ella (Willie) Williams and Christine Hunter both of Merrillville, IN. Brothers Henry Harper (Juanita) of Columbus, GA, McKenzie Hunter II and Clarence Hunter both of Merrillville, IN and Luke (Ernestine Hunter) of Rochester, NY. 11 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Homegoing services will be held Saturday, February 24, 2018 at New Second Baptist Church, 3939 Deodar St., East Chicago, IN. Visitation one hour prior to service. Pastor Lee C. Gilliam, Officiating. Interment Fern Oaks Cemetery Griffith, IN. Arrangements entrusted to Divinity Funeral Home.
