Andrew Lee Patterson was born July 26, 1941 in Hughes, Arkansas to his proud parents Huston and June Patterson. He was the fifth child of nine children born to this union. Andrew attended Garfield Elementary School and Washington High School and he was a graduated of the class of 1960. Andrew loved and took great pride in his “home” city of East Chicago, IN. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in Vietnam as a member of the U.S. Submarine Service. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he settles in Los Angeles, CA for 40 years where he worked over a period of time for United Airlines. Later, he became the owner (in partnership) of a computerized cash register business and later opened (in partnership) an equipment leasing company. In 1996, Andrew met Barbara Johnson and shortly returned home to East Chicago in 1998 and opened a mortgage brokerage company in Hammond, IN. Shortly afterward, Andrew and Barbara joined in holy matrimony in 1999. Andrew L. Patterson passed away October 31, 2019 at Ingalls Hospital in Harvey, IL. He was 78. Andrew will forever be remembered for his dynamic personality, great conversation, his quick-wittedness, and his highly respected intelligence and diverse and extensive knowledge of all topics and subjects. He was admired and looked up to by young people in his community. He loved to mentor the youth with an emphasis in education. Andrew really had an impact on every life that he touched whether it be male, female, family, or foe. Although Andrew is no longer here with us in physical form, he will definitely live on in our hearts and minds forever. Andrew is preceded in death by his parents Huston and June Patterson; brothers Tyrone Hoy, Ulysses Hoy, Alvin Patterson, and Huston Patterson, Jr., and sister Alice Williams. He leaves to cherish his memories his beautiful devoted wife Barbara A. Patterson; four truly loving step-children Tanesha (Erik) Bailey, Derek Glasper, Jerett (Phon) Glasper, and Genae (Keith) Cooper; 13 adoring grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters Vivian Green, Sharon (Bill) Jackson, and Denise (Michael) Webb; one life-long sister-in-love Jeanette Carter; dear sister-in-law Brenda Edmond; brother-in-law Raymond Johnson and a host of admiring nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and dear friends.

Let us resolve to go forth from today’s service inspired to live better lives thanks to Andrew’s example and dedicate ourselves to the higher cause that Andrew epitomized.
