Betty Jo Wooley-Harris was born June 17, 1948 in Hammond, Indiana to her parents Royster Wooley and Mary Alice ‘Nix’ Wooley-Walker. Betty devoted her life to Christ and served the Apostolic church as a choir director, Sunday school teacher, and secretary. She was the second eldest child. In 1987, she fell in love and married Leroy F. Harris. To this union two daughters were born. Betty was an accomplished artist of portraits and oil paintings in her spare time. She is retired from Calumet National Bank as a teller of more than 20 years. She also worked for Chapman Cleaners for many years in her youth.
Betty Jo Harris of Indianapolis, formerly of Hammond, IN , transitioned into glory at 72 years of age, on Friday, September 11, 2020.
She is preceded in death by her parents Royster Wooley and Mary Alice “Nix” Wooley-Walker; daughter Destiny Harris; brothers Raymone Wooley ,Donnell Walker and sisters Carol Joyce Wooley and Patricia Wooley Fullmer.
Betty leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband Lee Harris of Indianapolis, IN; daughter Angela Harris of Indianapolis, IN; step-daughter Tonya Harris of Hammond, IN ; 3 grandchildren ; 1 great grandchild; siblings Paul D. (Marilyn)Walker, Pastor Lureta Logan, Gundolyn Evon Julkes, Myra Jean Brown, Alice Fay Walker all of Pennsylvania, Phyllis (Cleothus) Williams of Louisiana, Sandy Pilgrom of Alabama, Willie’Honey’ Walker, Angel Walker, Barbara (Larry) Walker Foote, Endelita Lewis all of Indianapolis; Rhoda Adams of Arizona, and Mona Nunnery of Gary; her only living Auntie Louise Wooley, and many step-sisters, nieces, nephews, and cousins other family and friends.
Betty will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her. We will continue to love her and celebrate her life with ours until we are all joined again.
