Charles Page Obituary/Virtual Registration

Charles “Burchie” Page was born on July 26, 1947, in Middlesboro, KY to his parents Robert Alexander and Wilma Jean Page. He was the older of three children.

Burchie accepted Christ at an early age at Mount Moriah Baptist Church where he sang in the junior choir.

“Burchie” or “Page”, as he was affectionately known, graduated from the Middlesboro High School in 1965. He was an all-star athlete with amazing athletic abilities. He excelled in football, basketball, baseball, and track and field. He was charming, well-liked, with affable flamboyance. He was so cool, without even trying.

Burchie attended Western Kentucky University on a football scholarship. After completing one year of study for physical education. Burchie took a summer internship at Inland Steel in East Chicago. He would often boast, saying “I made $13,000 that summer! Do you know how much money that was in 1966? Especially for a black man. The rest was history.”

Burchie continued his employment after the internship and worked for 30 years as a crane operator until his retirement in the late 90s.

Burchie loved the dance, fish, and travel. His favorite pass time was watching Walker Texas Ranger or In the Heat of the Night on TV.
