Clarence Kemp

Reverend Clarence Eugene Kemp of Niles, Michigan, was called to his heavenly home on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at the age of 84. 

Born on March 11, 1942, in Etna, Pennsylvania, Eugene was the beloved son of Clarence and Bernice Kemp. He later moved to Indiana, where he graduated from East Chicago Roosevelt High School as a proud member of the Class of 1961. During his school years, he was a member of the varsity basketball team and enjoyed the camaraderie and competition that came with the game.

A man of faith, Eugene was ordained as a minister in 1987. Following his calling to serve others, he founded Eugene Kemp Agape Ministries, through which he shared his faith, encouraged others, and sought to embody the spirit of God's unconditional love. His ministry became an important part of his life's work and reflected his commitment to serving both God and people.

Eugene was a man of many talents and interests. He had a deep love for music and especially enjoyed listening to Eddie Kendricks, whose voice and artistry brought him great joy. He also possessed a gift for writing and poetry. Throughout his life, he wrote extensively and completed several manuscripts, leaving behind a collection of words that reflected his thoughts, creativity, and unique perspective on life.

Those who knew Eugene will remember his warm smile, quick wit, and wonderful sense of humor. He had a way of making people laugh, telling a story, and bringing lightness to a room. His laughter, creativity, and presence will be remembered by family and friends alike.

While his journey was not without challenges, Eugene lived a life rich with experiences, relationships, and memories. His story continues through the family he loved, the ministry he built, the words he wrote, and the lives he touched.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Bernice Kemp; his brother, Ronald Kemp; and his son, Eugene "Kimanthi" Hollis.

Eugene leaves to cherish his memory his brothers, Saadiq Saafir, Craig (Shanice) Kemp, and Eric Kemp; and his sister, Sandra Kemp. He is also survived by his children: Traci (Donald) Dixon, Eric Sean (Pamela), Tracey (Jerome) Willis, Cherese (Early) Jackson, Benjamin Tapper, and Katherine Tapper and a longtime partner Joy Kemp.

He also leaves behind grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends who will continue to carry his memory forward.

Though he has departed from this earthly life, the love, laughter, faith, creativity, and memories he shared remain with all who knew him.

Memorial Services will be on June 26, 2026 at Divinity Funeral home in East Chicago, indiana
