Cora McFerson Obituary/Virtual Registration

Cora Michelle (Frazier) McFerson was born on March 21, 1964 in East Chicago, IN to Rev Willie L.Frazier and Ruth (Smith) Frazier.  Cora departed this life after a lengthy, but courageous battle on May 12, 2020 at the age of 56 at the Community North Heart Center in Indianapolis, IN.

Cora affectionately known as Skinny Minnie, a name given to by her dad and others.Cora accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized under the pastoral leadership of her dad Rev. Willie L. Frazier at the New Starlight Missionary Baptist Church in East Chicago, IN. She later followed dad and joined with the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church of Hammond, IN. She subsequently moved her membership to Sweet Pilgrim of Faith Missionary Baptist church under her dad Rev W. L. Frazier and under her brother Rev. Gregg Frazier. Cora later moved to Indianapolis and joined the Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev, James C. Williamson. Cora devoted herself to singing in the choir and singing quartet with the Frazier Family.

Cora attended Gary public schools and was a member of West Side High School class of 1982.Cora married the love of her life, Jackie McFerson on October 9, 1993.Jackie was a devoted husband and faithfully cared for Cora through her illness. Together they have 7 children and 26 grandchildren.

Cora was known to be the life of the party. She loved to be surrounded by family and friends, being loud, making sure everyone knew she was there. Cora never let her illness stop her from doing what she wanted to do. She would get her dialysis set up in any state she wanted to visit, in order to see her family. Wherever the family was, you would find Cora. She reached out to the young people and invited them into her home.

Cora loved to cook and entertain the family. She would clean and cook chitterlings, cook greens, mac and cheese, and sweet potatoes and invite all to come to enjoy.Cora was the fashion queen. She loved to dress from head to toe.Cora was a lover and a fighter. Always ready to come to the rescue of her family and fight anyone, no matter how big or small.  (In her voice) “You ain’t said nothing but a word” or “I can show you better than I can tell you” and off she went. On one occasion, she walked from East Chicago to Gary because she was denied the opportunity to speak with her father.
