David Earl Ellis, Sr. was born in Elmore County, Alabama on January 29, 1950 to his parents Rubin Willie James Ellis, Sr. and Mrs. Willie Mae Ziegler Ellis. Later, David moved to Cincinnati, OH with his aunt and uncle. After he left Ohio, he moved to East Chicago, IN with his sister, where he worked various jobs. David worked for the Pullman Standard until the plant closed. He later was employed for AMOCO until his retirement.
David joined First Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Cato Brooks. Later, he moved his membership to New Ebenezer Baptist Church in Merrillville, IN under the leadership of Rev. Joseph Hughes. David enjoyed singing in the male chorus and he was diligently involved in church ministry.
David enjoyed going out of town with his daughters, TaKeia and Talashia and his niece Mary. He planned on enjoying the Thanksgiving holiday with his daughters in Chattanooga, MS.
David loved spending time with his family in Kankakee, Alabama, Kentucky and Indiana.
David Earl Ellis passed away November 13, 2021 at St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago, IN. He was 71. David is preceded in death by his parents Rubin and Willie Mae Ellis; brother Rubin Ellis, Jr. and sisters Rebecca Washington, Lillie Bowman, Rose Lucas, Caroline Lykes, Willie Petty and Alice Pradd.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted spouse of 39 years, Mrs. Jacqueline D. Mobley; daughters TaKeia L. Lowery, TaLashia (Edward, Sr.) Smith and TaWanna (Anthony, Sr.) Henderson; sons David Earl Ellis, Jr., Terranian Lowery and Camer’ron Mobley; brother Alonzo Ellis of Minnesota; sister-in-law Mary Ellis of Kankakee, IL; special Goddaughter Shaprana Harris; grandchildren Tiara Walker, Shod N.E. Walker, Jr., Tamarrion Ellis, KaLeeyah
Henderson, Edward Smith, Elijah Smith and Anthony Henderson and a host of other nieces, nephews, other family and friends
