David Alexander Upshaw, Sr. was born on March 29, 1975 in East Chicago, Indiana to Trustee Albert Upshaw and the late Annie Upshaw. He attended the public school of East Chicago, Indiana and was a graduate of Central High School, Class of 1993. This was a great accomplishment that both him and his family was extremely proud of. At an early age he professed his faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized under the late, Rev. Dr. Vincent L. McCutcheon and later served under Rev. Dr. Justin Kidd of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, East Chicago, Indiana. He was a diligent member who served faithfully for more than half of his life assisting with the food pantry and other various department within the church. Because of his hard work, faithfulness and dedication, he was employed by Antioch for more than 10 years. Later in life, he became a member of Greater Emmanuel Temple Apostolic Church, Hammond Indiana under the leadership of Bishop Wallace Johnson, PHD. and was an employee of Ameristar Casino where he gained many friends.
David was united in holy matrimony to Jasmine Nichols on July 11, 2012. He immensely loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He would always host BBQ functions for the Holidays. Dre, DJ and Jayce were his “World” His love for his children was incomparable to any other. He quietly departed this life on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at St. Catherin Hospital. He was proceed in death by his mother, Annie Upshaw, one brother in law, Ernest T. Parker; one sister in law, Sherrette Dates; nephew Keywon Dates and special aunt Francis Porter.
David leaves to cherish his memory, wife Jasmine Upshaw; his children, Kevonte, Dre’Ontae, David Jr. and Jayce; his father, Trustee Albert Upshaw Sr.; Siblings, Annette Robinson, Marvella (Clyde) Smith, Albert Upshaw, Allan(Tungera) Upshaw and Allana Upshaw all of East Chicago, Indiana; James Stephanie) Mobley of Decatur, Georgia, Otis Dates of Tampa, Florida; grandson, Xayvion and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. Special friends, Joseph Holmes, Conan Davis, Timothy Lark and Brian Dumas, Sr.
