Edna M. Gaddie was born October 11, 1943 to her mother Rose Lee Jenkins in Cook County, IL. Edna relocated to East Chicago, IN and attended East Chicago public schools. Later, Edna was adopted by Leola Hardaway of East Chicago, IN and was brought to the Zion Missionary Baptist Church of East Chicago, IN where she accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Rev. Dr. J.C. Wade, Jr. Edna joined the usher board, the Golden Fellowship and was a faithful member of the 7:30AM early morning worship and 9:00AM Sunday school.
Edna worked for the City of East Chicago public schools as a custodian for 8 years but had to take an early retirement due to injuries. Edna met the “love of her life” at the Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Deacon George Reginald Gaddie.
Edna and George were joined together in Holy Matrimony on October 8, 1983. October 8, 2021 would have been their 38th wedding anniversary.
Edna really enjoyed being a senior companion for the elderly at the James Hunter building in East Chicago. Edna enjoyed crossword puzzles and board games. She would play the board games with George and “beat him every time”
Edna Mae Gaddie made her heavenly transition on September 21, 2021 at 3:55PM at Community Hospital in Munster, IN surrounded by her loving husband.

Edna Gaddie is preceded in death by her mother, Ruby Lee Jenkins and adopted mother Leola Hardaway and sister Elizabeth A. Murray.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving and devoted husband, Deacon George R. Gaddie of East Chicago, IN; son Emmett Karl Betterson; siblings Toni (John) Jackson,Sr. of St. Paul, Minnesota; nieces, Kimberly (Marvin Mobley) Patterson of Hammond, IN and Ginger (Darrell) Terrell of Toledo, OH; grandchildren Adrien Gonzales and Ebony Mae Betterson; great granddaughter Na’el Gonzales; the entire ZMBC family and a host of other family and friends.
