Ernest West

Ernest West, passed away at the age of 86 on July 14, 2023.  He was born in Roba, Alabama to the parents of George and Anna (Pace) West.  Ernest was drafted to the military at the age of 18 serving in the US Army.  After serving in the military, Ernest relocated to Northwest Indiana where he worked various jobs until obtaining employment at Youngs Town/LTV Steel and retired after 40 years.  

Ernest hobbies were fishing, reading the newspaper daily, and he loved spending time with family.  Ernest was affectionately known as “West”, “Dad”, “Granddaddy”, “Grandpa”, and “Uncle”.  He is survived by his loving wife, Vivian, five children, Douglas West, Freeman West, Roberta-Demples (Troy) Dorsey, Ernest Alonzo West, Jermaine (Maria) West; six grandchildren,  Kevin (Cynthia) Smith, Kayla Smith, Justyce Dorsey, Victoria West, Hannah and Isaac West; 5 great-grandchildren Amari, Noah, Zadaya, Carter and Baby Wunder; one sister, Ella West and special sister-n-law, Winnie West; two step-sisters Juanita Strong and Janet West; a host of Special/Close Nieces and Nephews, Cousins and many friends. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Anna; 4 brothers Al West, Washington West, Charlie West and James (Jimmie) West.
