George H. Holloway passed away after a short illness at Community Hospital on October 17, 2020. George was born in Ripley Tennessee to the union of George B. Holloway and Wilma Jean Vaughn on May 3, 1948. He was the second eldest of six children.
George graduated from Washington High School in 1967. George joined the United States Marine Corps in 1968 and was honorably discharged January 31, 1974. George was employed by the East Chicago Fire Department where he was a faithful and dedicated employee. He was revered by those he worked with him for his true and sincere character. He was truly beloved by the East Chicago Fire Department and even those who came in contact with him. George was united in holy matrimony to Zelma K. Phillips on April 15, 1972. George and Zelma joyfully raised four sons.
George was baptized in Jesus name at Logan Park Assembly of Christ, January 3, 2005 under the leadership of Bishop George L. Stearnes and filled with the precious gift of the Holy Ghost on July 31, 2005. He was a faithful member of the Logan Park Baptismal Committee and the Brotherhood Choir until his eyesight began to fail. He was a faithful and active member of Sunday School Class 17. He remained under the leadership of Elder Jeffery E. Allen until his passing.
He was preceded in death by his father George B. Holloway and mother Wilma Jean Holloway, Brother Melvin Holloway and Brothers, Melvin Holloway and Thomas Fredrick Holloway. One daughter-in-law, Toya Phillips and one niece Jeffra Holloway.
George leaves to cherish his memories beloved wife Zelma Holloway, 4 sons Maurice Phillips, Sr. of East Chicago, Indiana, Shawn Phillips, Keino D. Holloway, Darcell A. Holloway, of Gary Indiana. Brothers Jeffrey Holloway and Jimmy (Lanell) Holloway, Gary Indiana and Calvert (Stacey) Holloway, of Ripley Tennessee. Mother-in-law, China Phillips;Sister-in-law Thera Love(Lester), of Benton Harbor MI, Godson Charles Reese, Jr., of Merrillville, IN, Goddaughter April Brown, of Gary, IN; seven Grandchildren and 4 Great-grandchildren.
George will be missed and cherished by all who knew him.
