Hester Ann Cannon 87, died on October 10.2022 Katy, TX., after a short illness. She was born on August 17. 1935 in Mantua, Alabama. The daughter of Eugene Cannon and Corean (Harris) Cannon. Hester graduated from Druid High School. After graduating high school, Hester begins to work. In 1963 she to relocate with her brothers and sisters to Northwest Indiana. After settling in Hammond, Indiana Hester begin to work at the Hammond Public Library in 1964, where she worked until she retired in 2009.
Hester was very active in her church and community. She was a member of several organizations: Her first love was Jesus and she joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church. During her years at Mt. Zion, she served on the Senior usher board as a treasurer. She also oversaw the Jr. Usher board for many years, Hester, also taught Sunday school as well. After relocating to Marietta, GA she served as an usher for World Changers Church International
Hester was active in her community as well. She was a founding member of the Laura Passmore Guild Federated Club where she served for over 30 years. She held the position of club secretary and treasurer. She was co-founder of the Laura Passmore Girls Club. She served as the Third percent committee person and a member of the Lake County Park board. Hester was honored by her community with several awards. Recently she was recognized in February 2022, for her commitment and outstanding service in the area of Civic empowerment for the Hammond Community.
She s was predeceased in death by sisters, Ruth Hardy, Lois Kirkman, Iola Collins, and Priscilla Cannon. Brothers Willie Gene Cannon, Johnny Mack Cannon, Jesse Cannon, and Harry Cannon. Grandson Aaron Sheldon Wooley
She leaves to cherish her memory: Two Daughters, Frances Cannon Wooley (Psalm Spring CA), and Bernice Cannon-Simmons (Houston, TX), two grandsons Dwain C. Wooley 11, Ryne S. Wooley, three great-grandchildren LeaRon Pratt-Wooley, Norael Cannon-Wooley, and Tyron Pratt- Wooley, a special Goddaughter Owana Miler and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
