Inell Marie Phillips-Simmons was born December 12, 1945 in Hurtsburo, Alabama to her parents William Phillips and Lizzie Mae Shelton. She accepted Christ at an early age. She graduated from Russell County Training School in Alabama in 1963 and soon after moved to East Chicago, Indiana. In 1966, she married Willie Marion, with this union two children were born. She loved to read her Bible and listen to gospel music. Her favorite song was “The Battle is the Lord’s” She also loved to take care of her family and watch Family Feud. Inell worked several jobs including EKG technician at St. Margaret Hospital, Lake County Correctional Officer, travel agent and she retired from the Gary Community School Corporation as a security supervisor.
Inell passed away on Thursday, September 10,2020 in the comfort of her home. She was 74. Inell is preceded in death by her parents, William Phillips and Lizzie Mae Shelton; husband Norris Simmons; brothers Joe Edward Broaders, Moses Broaders and Eddie Broaders.
Inell leaves behind to cherish her memories her loving daughter Latoria Marion; loving grandchildren, Ashlie Carter, Thomas, Cerenyti and India Campbell; sister, Ethel (Henry) Thomas; brother, Johnny (Inez) Broaders; additional family and friend Linda Tolbert; Godsisters Gracie Dunkin, June Fleming, and Jennifer Nelson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.
Inell will be truly missed by all that knew her.
