Iris Jean was born August 6, 1939, to Oliver & Dessiree Evans.  She was the only child born into this union. Iris grew up in East Chicago, Indiana and graduated from Washington High School.  After high school Iris married Stanley Carter, 3 daughters and 1 son were born into this union.  Later in life, Iris married William Jordan, 2 sons were born into this union.

Iris joined Tabernacle Baptist church at an early age and remained a faithful member until her illness. Iris was a Sunday School teacher, member of the Mission Circle and was a dedicated member of the kitchen committee.  Iris will be remembered for her love and loyalty to her family, friends, her students and her commitment to church.

After raising her children and working several part-time jobs, Iris attended Calumet College St Joseph and received her bachelor’s degree in 2002.   Iris became a substitute teacher, then held a Para Professional position for School City of East Chicago until her illness.  Iris had the ability to encourage her students and look on the bright side of every situation.  Iris spent her leisure time with her family. She loved going to Chicago to shop. She loved traveling and experiencing new adventures.

On Wednesday, March 29, 2023, the Lord called Iris home to eternal rest.  May her soul find peace, favor, and acceptance with her maker and may her good works live on. Iris was preceded in death by her husband, William Jordan and parents, Oliver and Dessiree Evans.

Cherishing her memory are her 6 Children, Karen Carter of Hessville, Indiana; Sharon (Arnold) Finch of Crown Point, Indiana; Bruce Carter of East Chicago, Indiana; Kathy Carter of Crown Point, Indiana; Alex Jordan of Griffith, Indiana; William (Lashawn) Jordan, Jr. of East Chicago, Indiana.

17 grandchildren; Shermise Carter Wells; Tanisha (Aaron) Johnson; Carlexis Buggs; Tanequea Jordan; Se-Ahn (Annie) Warren; Alexis Jordan; Shakenya Carter; Gregory Nelson, Jr; Troy Anderson; DeNean Jones; Tysheika Jordan; Chavez Jordan; Ravaunte Love; Raven Love Yates; Pryde Jordan; Raionni Jordan; Rashae Love.  16 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, and a host of relatives.
