Ivory Martin

Mr. Ivory D. Martin was born to the late George and Odie Bell Martin on October 18, 1937 in Madison County, Tennessee. He graduated from West High School in 1957. He moved to East Chicago, Indiana and met the love of his life, Surlana Knight and God  blessed  this union with four children, Geralyn D. Martin,  Karen E. Hawk, Patrick F. Martin, and Terrence R. Martin. Mr. Ivory D. Martin worked at Inland Steel Company where he retired after 40yrs of service.

Mr. Ivory D. Martin received Christ and was saved in 1982 at Faith Temple Church of God in Christ, in East Chicago Indiana under the leadership of Bishop William O Blakely Sr. He was a Deacon, Elder and made Assistant Pastor under Superintendent Dr. David Blakely. Elder Ivory D. Martin was Superintendent of Sunday

School, Chairman of Finance Committee and Chairman of Program Committee. Elder Ivory D. Martin entered into the presence of the Lord Tuesday, December 29,2020 at Saint Catherine Hospital in East Chicago, Indiana. He was 83 years old. Elder Ivory D. Martin leaves to cherish his loving wife of 59 years, Mother Surlana Martin, Tony and Karen Hawk of Vail Arizona, Patrick and Theresa Martin, of Lafayette Indiana, Terrence Martin of East Chicago, Indiana. Grandchildren, Alexyse Martin, Ilena Hawk, Allysse Hawk, Drake Adams and Payton Martin. Great-grand son, Kameryn Martin. Four brothers, DC Martin of Milwaukee Wisconsin, AM Martin of East Chicago Indiana, Joe L. Martin of East Chicago Indiana and Jerry Martin ofJackson Tennessee. He was preceded in death by G.W Martin, Lucille Ray, A.V Martin, Odie Spencer Martin and Geralyn D. Martin. He leaves a host of cousins, nephews, and church family. He is most remembered by his gentle words of kindness and his great love for the word of God and people. He was best known as the "Walking Bible". He will be greatly missed and never forgotten in our hearts.
