Johnnie B. Jacobs of East Chicago, Indiana was born to the union of Johnny and Augusta Ryan, on June 7,1933 in Cotton Plant, Arkansas. She later moved to East Chicago, Indiana in 1945.

She was united in marriage to Mr. DC Jacobs in 1953.

She confessed her life in Christ at an early age.

She was an active member of the Mt Hermon Missionary Baptist Church in East Chicago, Indiana for many years, where she served as President of the Nurses Guild, and the founder and leader of The Mt. Hermon Jr Choir.  She also served the National Baptist Convention as the Indiana State President of the Nurses Guild.  

Ms Jacobs later moved her membership to New Zion Temple Church, in Hammond Indiana under the Pastorate of her Grandson, Bishop Brandon A. Jacobs, where she also served on the Nurses Guild and the Mother’s Board.

During the 1960’s, Ms Jacobs worked for several Nursing Facilities in Hammond, Indiana.  During the 1970’s she worked for Alex Display in Chicago, Illinois, where she did window displays for big department stores like Sears & Roebuck and Marshall Field’s.  She later went to work for the East Chicago Park and Recreation District, helping our children to recreate, learn and grow. She also served as Precinct Committeewoman of the 6th Councilmanic District.  November 1,1996 was declared Johnnie B. Jacobs Day in the City of East Chicago, by Mayor Robert A. Pastrick

She was blessed with many gifts and talents which include decorating, food preparation and creating beautiful floral arrangements.  She was the proud owner of Lady J’s Floral designs.

Miss Johnnie B. as she was affectionately called, departed this life on Sunday, November 14,2021 at St Catherine’s Hospital, in East Chicago.  She was preceded in death by her Parents:  Johnny and Augusta Ryan. Husband: DC Jacobs. Siblings: Roy B. Edwards, Isaiah Edwards, Margaret (Cleophus) Garner, Jean (Elsworth) Edwards, David Ryan, Elex Ryan and Earl Ryan.

She leaves to Cherish her memory: Sister: Emma J Hayden-Bell Sister-in-laws:  Charlene Ryan, Cora Ryan, Flora Hyatt and Beverly Ryan.  Children:  Jackie Mitchell, Buffalo, New York; Ellen D. Williams, Longview, Texas; Rochelle (Bishop Wallace) Johnson, East Chicago, Indiana; Tyrone Jacobs, Upper Marlboro, Maryland; Kevin (Heidi) Jacobs, East Chicago, Indiana; Yolanda (Shannon) Vinson, Grand Rapids, Michigan; Charles (Darlene) Ryan, Merrillville, Indiana and Peggy (George) Smith, Hobart, Indiana Grandchildren: Wallace IV, Tina, Mylynn, Ericka, Bishop Brandon (Vivian), Jason (Jackie), Max, Shawn (Toni), Nickole, Ricky, Chelsea, Kamaria, Malashia, Darien, Teubrian Great Grandchildren: Denzel, Shawniece, Joshua, Amaya, Khoreice, Xavier, Derrick A.Jr, Mekaih, Cameron, Jawen, Brandon Jr, Bella, Eliyah, Jai`Lin, Benjamin, Elijah, Cadynce, Raylyn, and Ryleigh. Special Friends: George (Pat) Cousnard, George (Captoria) Weems; Evelyn Forte, Tina & Jacoby and a host of other family and friends.
