Johnny W. Isbell was born August 14, 1953 to his parents Birl, Sr. and Doretha Isbell in East Chicago, IN. Johnny accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Hermon M.B. Church by Rev. K. B. Long. He was a graduate of East Chicago Washington High School with the Class of 1971 and later attended Calumet College of St. Joseph in Whiting, IN where he earned his B.S. Degree. He was also a proud member of Alpha Psi Alpha Fraternity, INC holding the position of Recording Secretary. He has numerous jobs and was employed by the Lake County Division of Family and Children as a caseworker where he later became a Hearings Officer for 36 years. He retired in 2014 and was involved in many other activities such as The Gary Civic Chorale and the Lake County Retirees Association where he held the position of Chairperson of the Benevolent Committee. Johnny was always busy, especially working in his yard, which was his favorite past time.
Johnny W. Isbell passed away Friday, May 29, 2020 at Methodist Hospital in Merrillville, IN. He was 66. He is preceded in death by his parents Birl, Sr. and Doretha Isbell and his brother Jimmy Isbell. He leaves to cherish his memories his one brother Birl, Jr. (Lucy) Isbell of East Chicago, IN; five sisters Augusta Spencer and Carol Isbell both of East Chicago, IN, Linda Jackson of Hammond, IN, Michelle Isbell of Gary, IN and Brenda Isbell of Baytown, TX; nieces and nephews Anthony K., Ira (Peggy) Terrell, and Jason L. Jackson, Terrence B. Isbell; Brian D. (Danita) Isbell; Veronica V. Spencer; Vanessa L. Jackson, Talaya R. Upshaw, Crystal M. Isbell, LaMonica L. Wright, and Tasia S.D. Isbell; three God-children Dwayne Rancifer, Jr., Maya Dawson, and Gerald Harbour and a host of other family and friends.
