LaTavia Matthews

LaTavia Nicole Matthews was born November 3, 1971, to Gloria Allen in Gary, IN. She was the first child born to this union.

Affectionately known as “Nikki,” she received Christ at an early age while attending St. John Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Julius James.

She attended Wirt High School in Gary, IN. After graduating from high school, LaTavia attended Indiana University and received her bachelor’s degree in structural design. She later attended Purdue University and graduated with her master’s degree in structural design in 1999. 

LaTavia started her career in the Gary School System from 2000 to 2005 before relocating to Orlando, FL. She was employed for the Orlando Private School system as a teacher beginning in 2005.

LaTavia met her husband, Kevin R. Matthews, in 2002 and they were married in 2004 and together, they resided in Orlando, FL.

She enjoyed being an educator and planting. She also spent a lot of her time crafting. 

LaTavia Matthews passed away Friday, January 6, 2023, in Orlando, FL. She was 51. 

She is preceded in death by her brother Quincy Armour. LaTavia leaves to cherish her memories her loving husband, Kevin Matthews; mother Gloria Allen; in-laws Charles (Oria) Matthews, Jr. and a host of other family and friends.
