Mary Delores Wright was born November 5, 1955 to her parents Willie Wright and Mary Perkins in East Chicago, IN. Affectionately known as “Smallie,” “Small Fry,” “Fly Girl,” and “Mary D”, she confirmed her faith in Jesus Christ at an early age at the Metropolitan C.M.E. Church in East Chicago, IN where she served as a member of the Tiny Tot Choir. Later, Mary attended and graduated from high school and later earned her undergraduate degree in Forensic Science from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. She decided to become a probation officer at the East Chicago and Lake County city courts. She was a member of the Phi Beta Sigma sorority and an avid supporter of the NAACP. Mary D. Wright passed away Friday, November 15, 2019 at her home in East Chicago, IN. She is preceded in death by her parents Willie Wright and Mary Perkins; sisters Willie Norfleet, Elenora Thomas, Mary Alford, Dorothy Berber, Willie Mae Hall, Oceola Walden and Ruby Wright and brother Robert Perkins and brother-in-law Julian Berber. She leaves to cherish her memories her sisters Gloria Hemphill-Russell of Indianapolis, IN and Terry Alexander of Gary, IN; nieces Rhonda McIntyre-Kyle, Terese Alexander, Joajuana Hemphill and Keisha (Arthur) Hinton; nephews Terrell Wright and Delton Henderson; two great nieces; two great nephews; 6 great-great nieces and one great-great nephews; adopted children and a host of other family and special friends.
