Matthew Perkins Obituary/Virtual Registration

Matthew M. Perkins was born July 21, 1931 to his parents Silas Perkins and Rozetta Lofton in East Chicago, IN. He was the only child to this union. Affectionately known as Snooky, he accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of A. R. Burns. He later joined New Community Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Patrick Gillis.

He attended and graduated from Washington High School. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War.

Matthew was united in holy matrimony to Barbara Payton in March of 1977 by Rev. A.R. Burns. This blessed union lasted 51 years until God decided to call him home.

Matthew loved to attend church, go to McDonalds every morning for coffee with his friends, watch old Western movies, and give big wet kisses on the cheek to his kids and grandchildren.

Matthew M. Perkins passed away July 9, 2021 at Franciscan Health in Dyer, IN. He was 89. He is preceded in death by his parents Silas Perkins and Rozetta Lofton; uncle Walter “Babyface”; aunt Bessie Johnson; daughter Kim Perkins and grandson Donald Moore, Jr.
