Nathaniel H. Burns, Jr. was born October 11, 1933 to his parents Nathaniel Burns, Sr. and Fannie Hopson-Daniels in Garland City, AK. He was the sixth child born to this union. Affectionately known as Jr. Burns or Jr. Red, Nathaniel accepted Christ at an early age and later attended Garland City Public Schools in Arkansas. He also was a lead singer in a local youth gospel group. After school, Nathaniel moved to Hammond, IN and was employed at Vulcan Mold & Iron as a crane operator. He later retired in 1985. In 1979, he met and fell in love with Derri. The two married June 30, 2012 and to their union one child was born.
He enjoyed working on cars, fishing, playing cards and dominos. Nathaniel will always be remembered for his sense of humor and his favorite saying “Thank you Jesus for blessing me!”
Nathaniel H. Burns passed away Monday, February 15, 2021 at Franciscan Health in Hammond, IN. He was 87. He is preceded in death by his parents Nathaniel Burns, Sr. and Fannie Hopson-Daniels; son Triston Burns; two brothers and seven sisters.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Derri Burns; children Twila Burns of Las Vegas, NV and Byron (Larissa) Burns; grandchildren Brittany, Dorian, Byron, Jr, Alexis, Jamari, Zacarius, Amaya, Ameryca, Amir, Bryllyance, and Davery Spears; goddaughter Lydia Sauzberry; special niece Mary (Babay) White; loving caregiver Joe Feigin and a host of other family and friends.
