Nepolean C Wilson

Nepolean C. Wilson was born July 26, 1929 in Pickens, MS to his parents Elisha and Mattie Johnson-Wilson. He was the first of four children born to this union. Nepolean was named by his aunt Oar D. Johnson-Howard (his mother’s sister). He attended Nicholas School in Canton, MS where he completed his education and worked diligently on his father’s farm. In 1944, he confessed Christ and was baptized in Dokes Creek in Mississippi and became a member of St. John Baptist Church. Later, in 1947, he relocated to East Chicago, IN and was hired to work at Inland Steel. In 1948 he joined Tabernacle Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Allen. Later, he was drafted into the Army in 1951.

In 1956, Nepolean accepted the office of Deacon, Sunday school teacher and security guard at the church. He also taught Bible class on Fridays at the James Hunter Senior building in East Chicago, IN. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church for over 55 years.

In 1988, Nepolean and Marie married. Every year, Nepolean enjoyed the July birthday program and dinner at Tabernacle Baptist Church on the 4th Sunday night for all of the July-born members. He invited all of his family members and friends from Detroit, MI and Chicago, IL. His cousins, Walter Wilson and Ora D. Ballard, came and brought their families as well. Nepolean enjoyed eating, sleeping, shopping for others, selling fruits and vegetables and soda pop, traveling state to state, visiting and getting to know his family from all generations while attending his family reunions for over 40 years with his wife.

Nepolean C. Wilson passed away July 10, 2020 at St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago, IN. He was 90.

He is preceded in death by his great-grandparents Charlie and Katie Young-Johnson; grandparents Charlie, Jr. and Lucy Adams-Johnson; parents Elisha and Mattie Wilson; sons Nepolean II, Elisha Wilson and Crawford Wilson.

Nepolean leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Marie Wilson; daughters Patricia, Adrienne (Mike), Angel, Vatisa, Letha, Pamela, Bonnie and Kristina; sisters Lucy and Yvonne; grandchildren Nepolean III, Reginald, Sir Crawford, Michael, Gerome, Gregory, Cedric, Keith, Jr., Kaitlin, Dominique, Galetha, VaRie, Glory, Kaylah, Courtney, Diamond, Karina and Brittnie; great-grandchildren Shemil, Brandon, Avery Brooklynee, Kingston, and Laina and a host of other family and friends.
