Oscar Hall, Jr. was born September 19, 1940 to his parents Oscar and Annie D. Hall in East Chicago, IN. He was the fifth of ten children born to this union. Oscar, affectionately known as “Hop”, was educated in the East Chicago Public School System. Oscar received Christ at an early age at Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Early in his career, Oscar found his true calling at the Calumet News Agency located in the heart of Indiana Harbor. There, he showed his diligence for hard work and his attention for perfection in the newspaper business. Under his leadership, Oscar gave many young people an opportunity to earn money and support themselves financially and he was known as one of the best skaters in the area. Later in his life, Oscar was known to many in the East Chicago community as an A-1 handyman. He was also employed by the School City of East Chicago and was a true master at home maintenance. When “Hop” did the job, everyone knew it was well done. Oscar Hall, Jr., passed away Thursday, August 22, 2019 at Methodist Hospital Northlake in Gary, IN. He was 79. Oscar is preceded in death by his parents Oscar Hall, Sr. and Annie D. Hall; brothers Earl, Arthur, and Robert Hall; sisters Dorothy Carpenter and Isabell McClain. He leaves to cherish his memories his daughters Sharon (Ricky) Collins of Gary, IN and Iris (James) Powell of Montgomery, AL; brother Donald Hall, Sr. of East Chicago, IN; sisters Martha McClain of Merrillville, IN, Barbara (Dwight) Richmond of Phoenix, AZ and Shirley Hall of East Chicago, IN; brother-in-law Charles Carpenter of Gary, IN; grandson Ricky Collins, Jr. of Gary, IN; nine grandchildren and a host of other nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
