Paul Louis Varner Jr. was born in East Chicago, Indiana to his parents Ellen Gates and Paul Varner.  He was the first born of seven children. He attended Roosevelt High School, graduating class of 1970.  After high school, he went on to serve a brief stint in the United States Army.  He later worked at Harbison-Walker where in retired from in 2011.

He loved his family and friends with all his heart.  He had a kind heart and would help people out any way that he could.  He lived his life to the fullest.  His daughters, granddaughters and great grandsons were the apples of his eye.  He adored his nieces, nephews, mother in-law, sister and brother in-laws.

Paul is proceeded in death by his loving parents, grandson Antonio Varner, sister Doris Jean Varner-Stampas, brother Curtis Gates, brother in-laws Larry Newman Sr, Craig Thompson, Gregory Stampas, Edward Norwood and Phillip Norwood.

He leaves to cherish his fond memories: His beloved wife Vernell Varner (Norwood) of East Chicago, IN, three loving daughters Senetha Varner of Hammond, IN, LaShun Varner and Stacey Varner of East Chicago, IN, three beautiful granddaughters Tramese Washington of Hammond, IN, Ariana Williams and Ta’Nya Varner of East Chicago, IN, Three great grandsons (little dudes) Messiah Washington of Hammond, IN, Marshawn Brown Jr and Malachi Brown of Hammond, IN, Three sisters Ellen (Jimmy) Williams and Annette (Craig) Thompson of Hammond, IN and Tracy (Steve) Nash of East Chicago, IN, One brother Efrem Varner of East Chicago, IN, One uncle George (Della) Gates of Columbus, GA, Special friends Howard “Mastro” Moore and Brad Thompson of East Chicago, IN, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
