Precious D. McClain was born to the union of the late Ida Lue Harris and Gene Torbert on July 22,1937 in Auburn County, Alabama. She made her peaceful transition from Earth to Heaven on Monday, September 27, 2021 at 2:25 p.m. at her home surrounded by her loving family. She will be sorely missed.
Precious relocated to East Chicago, Indiana and spent the majority of her life as a resident. She had a multitude of different occupations that included childcare, eldercare, CNA, and working as a great cook in various locations.
She enjoyed traveling, shopping, manicures and pedicures, and spending time with her family and friends. Prior to her illness, she looked forward to attending church services, and was a faithful member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist church in Merrillville, Indiana. She loved her church family and spoke of them often. She loved how everyone made her feel so special.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of thirty years, Deacon Ervin McClain. 5 sisters Ida Mae (Wilbur) Henderson, Princess Foster, Lucille (Mack) Borom, Lillie Lowell Miller, and VirginiaTorbert. 4 brothers Ernest Torbert, Jessie Torbert, Carey Torbert, and Levones (Marge) Torbert; and 2 loving and devoted sons Kenneth Elliott and Scott Warren.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories to 1 brother Fletcher (Roberta) Torbert of Phoenix City Alabama and 1 sister Johnnie “Sal” Torbert of Auburn, Alabama. 4 daughters Blanche Mitchell of Tamarac, Florida, Jeanette Elliott of East Chicago, Indiana, Brenda (Alphonso) Stewart of Gary, Indiana; Twelve loving grandchildren, Shalonda Warren, Terrill Ridgell, Precious Elliott-Matthews, Se-ahn (Annie) Warren, Kenoria Warren, KionnaWarren, Shakenya Carter, Brittany Stewart, Brittany Elliott, Bianca Stewart, and De’ Jon Warren. Loyal great grandson, Jonte Elliott; in addition to eleven other great grandchildren. A host of nieces and nephews. Special and devoted niece, Christine Bray of West Palm Beach, Florida. Dedicated and loving caregiver, Cecilia Reid of East Chicago, Indiana. Cousin and lifelong friend, Lucille Downs of Douglasville, Georgia and very special friend Carolyn Lewis of Hammond, Indiana.
