Tom Black

Tom Howard Black was born to the late Lois. Cunningham and Marcus Black in Winona, Mississippi on September 24, 1947. Tom attended E. C. Roosevelt High School and was a member of the class of 1965. Tom accepted Christ at an early age. He joined the U.S. Army and fought in the Vietnam War. Tom received an Honorable Discharge. Tom worked as a carpenter, the first black bricklayer masonry in East Chicago, and a school bus driver for East Chicago and Gary School Systems. 

God blessed Tom to meet Patricia Peterson-Evans in 2006 and in December of 2012 Tom and Patricia were joined together in Holy Matrimony. 

Tom departed this life on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago, IN. He is proceeded in death by this son Darrell Black.

Tom was a loving and dedicated brother, father, stepfather, grandfather, uncle, and friend. 

Tom leaves to cherish his loving memories wife, Patricia Black one son, Sothan; one grandchild; Children in love, Lisa, Niecy, Darci, Twyla, and Seymour Jr.; cousin/brother, Gatland (Viola); close friend, Mary Austin; neighbor and friend, Mr. & Mrs. Mansel Crump, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
