Earven Boyd was born November 11, 1949 to his parents Eugene and Ethel Boyd in Anguilla, MS. Earven was the first child born to this union. He received Christ at an early age at Ebenezer Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor W.H. Robinson. Earven attended East Chicago Public Schools and graduated from Washington High School in 1967. He was employed at Inland Steel for a short time before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in June of 1969 and received Vietnam Service Medals with Honorable Discharge.
Later, Earven united with Faith Temple COGIC under the leadership of Pastor David Blakely. He became a faithful member serving on the Deacons Board and a member of the Men’s Choir. Earven loved doing crosswords puzzles on the computer, hunting, fishing, making CDs for loved ones, and he loved to barbeque and grill steaks on his George Forman grill.
Earven transitioned to his heavenly home on Monday, January 8, 2018. He is preceded in death by his father Eugene Boyd, Sr; brother Eugene Boyd, Jr.; sister Jeanette Boyd and son Brian Boyd.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife Darlene Boyd; children Earven (Angela) Boyd of Elgin, OK, Justin Boyd of Las Vegas, NV, Kellee Boyd of Las Vegas, NV, and Arreona Boyd of Portage, IN; stepchildren Kyle (Michelle) Slack of Minneapolis, MN, India Slack of Osseo, MN, Robert (Liza) Slack of Tampa, FL, Donte Slack of East Chicago, IN, and Talana Burns of Indianapolis, IN.; loving mother Ethel Boyd of East Chicago, IN.; mothers-in-law Rosetta Gillispie of Hammond, IN and Joyce Williams of Gary, IN; two brothers Donald Boyd, Sr. of East Chicago, IN, Sr. and David Boyd, Sr. of Indianapolis, IN; two brothers-in-law Kevin Jackson of Gary, IN and Udo Williams of Indianapolis, IN; three sisters Darlene Boyd-Hobbs of Indianapolis, IN, Kathy Toodle of East Chicago, IN and Angela Boyd of Memphis, TN; sisters-in-law Nina (Graylan) Blakely of Gary, IN and Debra McGuire of East Chicago, IN; grandchildren Michelle and Naomi; uncle Charles (Lorena) Frazier of Memphis, TN; aunts Willie C. Smith and Lenora Root of Tupelo, MS and Annie Mae Frazier and Arlene Frazier of East Chicago, IN; two special friends Deacon Lewis Moore and Elder William Lofton; 6 nieces and 8 nephews, and a host of other family and friends.
